Unofficial Guide To Fall TV: The Comic Book Series ‘The Flash’ And ‘Gotham’ Arrive, Return Of Subscription Champions ‘Homeland’ And ‘Boardwalk Empire’

While there are plenty of times which new TV shows can make their debut, Fall season tends to be a relatively dangerous one for anything less than excellent. That aside, this upcoming Fall seems to be saturated with comic book superheroes, adding two new series "The Flash," and "Gotham," in addition to the return of "Arrow" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." In addition, for those paying for subscription networks like HBO and Showtime, "Boardwalk Empire" will return for its final season and "Homeland" will also return, and hopefully sustain its Emmy award winning prestige.

"The Flash" which is an otherwise typical comic book origins story adaptation, will premiere on the CW on October 7th. According to the CW official site, "The series stars Grant Gustin ("Glee," "Arrow") as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton ("The Game") as Iris West, Rick Cosnett ("The Vampire Diaries") as Eddie Thawne, Danielle Panabaker ("Necessary Roughness," "Justified") as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes ("Once" on Broadway) as Cisco Ramon, with Tom Cavanagh ("Ed," "Eli Stone") as Harrison Wells and Jesse L. Martin ("Law & Order") as Detective West."

In that same realm of DC comics, "Gotham" will premiere September 22nd on Fox. "Gotham" will highlight the origins of some of the heroes and villains of the fictional city made famous by Batman. It will specifically follow Commissioner Gordon's rise from rookie cop to the elected official most fans know him by. The cast includes Ben McKenzie as a young James Gordon, and the return of Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney.

Meanwhile on subscription networks, there's mostly returning series. HBO will start airing the final season of "Boardwalk Empire" tomorrow on September 7th, and Showtime will premiere the next season of "Homeland" on October 5th. Also they plan to air the first two episodes of the new season, so it's sure to be a night of excitement for "Homeland" fans.

IGN has an all inclusive Fall TV guide including upcoming romantic comedies and plenty of others. All in all, Fall TV premiere season will continue to be as cutthroat as it is, but here's hoping that no new fan favorites get canceled shortly after their debut.
