‘Black Panther’ Played By Will Smith? Box-Office Slump May Force Superstar To Accept Superhero Role! Djimon Honsou Also Up For The Role?

The role of Wakanda monarch T'Challa also known as the Black Panther may be the next iconic screen legend for black men. Almost every up and coming black actor has been rumored for the role, but it has caught the eye even of a top Hollywood superstar.

Will Smith has not been on target lately but that does not seem to affect his movie choices. His "After Earth" project was a critical bomb and a flop at the box office. Still, he is reportedly not involved with the 'Independence Day' sequel and we have yet to see a formal confirmation for the "Bad Boys" sequel (they shouldn't continue this if Smith is not in it) that was recently announced by Martin Lawrence.

If Smith wants to broaden his horizons, then he should play the Black Panther. He's probably the most well-rounded  black superhero in comics. He's not the usual black sidekick/partner that Hollywood churns out. T'Challa is one of the smartest people alive and he rules his own country. Thus, Smith's screen presence would really help.

From Game Druid, another argument for Smith is presented:

"If the Black Panther does make it to the big screen, who would play the role? If the studio can afford, I would definitely want to see Will Smith (massive fan). Though it would be odd to see the Black Panther use the catch phrase: 'Aw, hell no!'.  Ha ha ha ha. But considering what the current actors are doing with their characters - it might just work."

The Fresh Prince would be great for the traditional, humor-laced Marvel movies, but if they prefer a stronger, deeper portrayal, Djimon Hounsou could definitely make a case.

GD adds:

"Or the other possibility would be to see Djimon Hounsou. He is a very versatile actor who could definitely pull it off.  Possibly even better than Will Smith. Rather have him as The Black Panther than as Korath the Pursuer in Guardians of the Galaxy."

Two choices for Black Panther, but they are not the only ones-not by a long shot. Black Panther is rumored to be released in one of Marvel's 2017 release dates so a casting announcement is due soon.
