Dwayne Johnson ‘Shazam’ Movie Not Joining ‘Justice League?’ New Line Confirms That Shazam Movie Will Have Its Own Humorous Tone! Is That A Violation Of The Alleged ‘No-Jokes Policy?’

Too bad that picture with Shazam, Black Adam and Superman won't actually take place on the big screen. Shazam will not be a part of the Justice League and presumably the Universe they are building in 'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.'

That was the implication of some comments that New Line president Toby Emmerich revealed to EW:

"It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself. It's a DC comic, but it's not a Justice League character, and it's not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies." With these statements, we can see that it was part of the plan all along.

EW asked about the plot of Shazam, whose lead star has not been revealed although Dwayne Johnson has already tweeted that he's Black Adam. Of course, there is a vow of silence that comes with the territory and all that Emmerich shared was that it "will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real."

About Black Adam: "Black Adam is a complex character. The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie. And I thought Dwayne's take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun."

It is not yet certain as to when Shazam falls on the timeline, but the project has hired writer Darren Lemke (who previously worked on New Line's Jack the Giant Slayer.) Johnson will headline New Line's earthquake thriller San Andreas next summer.

Is the humor of Shazam the reason why it was ostracized from the DC Universe? The alleged 'no jokes' policy was brought up again in keeping with the dark and somber tone that would differentiate DC from Marvel. While it was subsequently denied, it's not a stretch to add one and one together.
