NBA News 2014: Veteran Point Guard Chauncey Billups Retires After 17-Year NBA Career, Poised To Get Management Position With Pistons

NBA news 2014: After playing for 17 seasons in the NBA, veteran clutch shooter Chauncy Billups has finally called it a career.

According to a report by Bleacher Report, the 37-year-old guard will not play in the upcoming NBA season. In an interview with Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, Billups said that he feels that it is time to finally call it quits.

"It's just time. I know when it's time. My mind and my desire is still strong. I just can't ignore the fact that I haven't been healthy for three years. I can try again and get to a point where I think I can go, but I just can't sustain. Me not being able to play the way that I can play, that's when you kind of know it's that time."

In Billups' remaining seasons with the NBA, he has been plagued with various injuries which have limited his type of game. Dubbed as Mr. Big Shot, Billups has been regarded as one of the most deadeye shooters in the past decade, especially when it comes to late-game situations.

He won the Finals MVP when he led the Detroit Pistons to a championship against the favorite Los Angeles Lakers, where they demolished the Kobe-led squad 4 games to 1.

Aside from a three point shooter, Billups was also known for his tenacity on defense and the ability to rack up steals. He is also a capable passer which leads to his 5-assist career record during his 17 NBA seasons.

Some of the teams which were hoping to get the services of Billups include the Cleveland Cavaliers, where LeBron James needs some veteran backup to lead the mostly young team win an NBA title.
