Upcoming Nokia Phones 2014: Lumia 830 And 730 Will Be Nokia's 'Last' Smartphones, Microsoft Taking Over Phone Branding?

Two of the upcoming Nokia phones for 2014 are the Lumia 830 and 730, both of which are midrangers, and were announced at the IFA event last week.

However, in a new report, it looks like the two smartphones will be Nokia's last phones, at least when it comes to branding.

A couple of months back, an alleged image of the Lumia 830 made the rounds over the Web, and it showed the phone's back revealing a new branding which says Nokia By Microsoft

Well, it looks like that time will soon come, it won't wait until the end of the year.

According to a new report by GSM Arena, a leaked internal document from Microsoft says that as a part of its 'transition phase', it will drop the branding for reference in future smartphones, primarily the ones which would be included in its 'Holiday campaign'.

Instead of having 'Nokia', Microsoft would just use 'Lumia' which is currently owned by Microsoft Mobile as part of the Nokia deal.

In the report, we may not be surprised to see the next smartphones from Microsoft and Nokia be named 'Microsoft Lumia', 'Windows Phone', or simply 'Lumia'.

The report also stated that the Redmond giant may also be planning to take away the 'Phone' branding in the near future, which could mean that its mobile platform would become known as Windows, like its PC platform. However, it will certainly need to work on integrating both OSes in order for this to work seamlessly.

The question now is whether these alleged branding plans will work in Microsoft's favor or not, considering how far Nokia has covered as far as marketing is concerned in its almost two decades in the mobile business.

Even with the Nokia branding, WP-powered handsets are nowhere in the 'most popular' category for mobile phones. What more if that branding disappears?
