Upcoming Android Tablets 2014: Dell Announces Thinnest Tablet Ever, Boasts 3D Camera, Extremely Thin Bezels, Unique Design

This year, there are not many upcoming Android tablets for 2014 unlike last year where manufacturers have been releasing them left and right. 

In fact, the IFA event only featured a handful and most of them are midrangers with generic design and specs. 

However, in a new report by GSM Arena, it looks like PC-maker Dell came in late for the party, though it still managed to squeeze in a tablet. And it sure is worth looking at. 

Dell announced its new Venue 8 7000 with the tag-line 'The world's thinnest tablet'. It may certainly be. 

At only 6mm thin, the Dell Venue 8 7000 is even thinner than the previous record-holders which include Sony's Xperia Z2 Tablet at 6.4mm, and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

However, the device is not all about thinness, as the Venue 8 7000 packs some serious specs which include an 8-inch OLED display with QHD or 2K (2560 x 1600) resolution, a quad-core Intel Moorefield chip clocked at 1.6GHz - 2GHz, 16GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot. 

Also on board are some cool features which include a 3D camera, 3D scanning, facial recognition, and a 10-finger gesture recognition. The Android slate comes with Android 4.4 Kit Kat out of the box, though we'd expect it to get Android L as well.

Strangely, the Venue 8 7000 tablet packs a rather odd design, which features three super slim bezels and a fourth huge one where the 3D sensor and a speaker.

Embedded in the camera is a RealSense technology that uses 3D engine mapping. It allows consumers to edit the focus areas of an already taken photo, and even make measurements of objects in it. 

Dell may not be known for its tablets, but the Venue 8 7000 is a game changer in terms of portability and design that consumers would want to give it a try.

Unfortunately, pricing has not been revealed just yet, though the device will reportedly be available in stores in November.
