‘Psycho-Pass 2’ Rumors: Second Season Will Revisit Kogami’s Life As An Officer And Explore Future of Sybil System?

The officially announced October release date for "Psycho-Pass 2" is fast approaching, and more rumors are circulating about the plot of the second season. The number one anticipated anime this Fall as voted by fans is rumored to focus on two things: Kogami's previous life as an officer and the future of the Sybil System.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, writer Gen Urobuchi stated via Twitter, "I want to make the audience happy by the anime," in an attempt to mislead fans that popular series "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" was to be a happy and light series. Now that he is reprising his role in penning season two of "Psycho-Pass," one might begin to wonder if there's more darkness to be expected in the already quite dark cyberpunk series.

Although there has been no official air date or simulcast announced, "Psycho-Pass 2" will air next month in October. Unlike most anime, there's no source material manga to look at for possible answers at what is in store. Two very interesting theories are circulating popular anime forums and both theories seem to be plausible plot devices for Season 2.

The first theory is that season 2 will revisit Kogami's previous life as an inspector. The first season of the series does slightly explain that his crime coefficient rose to a dangerous level while he was involved on a case, but the details are still missing. In a Crunchyroll forum discussing season 2, most fans agree that they'd like to see Kogami's life as an officer, and given how dark Urobuchi could get with the mystery surrounding his final case before he became an enforcer, there's a good opportunity for an interesting plot.

The second theory and by far the most interesting is that the second season will feature more information about Sybil System. One fan interestingly explains, "Sybil System and the rest of the world. We found out as the the show went on that Japan is the only country as far as we know with it. How does the rest of the world view this thing and what would happen if they found out what is really going on? I really wondered if they will bring in the outside world since Shinya Kougami got to the outside world AND will show back up in the new season... at least I hope."

One fan even thinks there's a possibility that the Sybil System will be the main villain for season 2. If Gen Urobuchi's history of focusing on dark elements suggest anything, "Psycho-Pass 2" may be a brutal ride. Fans won't know for sure however until October.
