Upcoming Motorola Phones 2014: New Moto Flagship Gets Disappointing Battery Life? Unlocked Version Will Be Named 'Pure Edition'

It's just been more than a week since Motorola launched its newest flagship, and yet one of its upcoming Motorola phones for 2014 has already undergone battery benchmarking.

Unfortunately for Motorola fans and consumers who may be thinking of getting this device, the numbers may not go in your favor.

PhoneArena has already tested the Motorola Moto X 2014 in a battery test which has also seen most of the flagships released this year such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2, HTC One M8 and the LG G3.

The benchmark is a test which is composed of a web script that aims to replicate the power consumption in smartphones under the usual real-life usage.

The Moto X only managed 5 hours and 45 minutes from a full charge to zero. It may look impressive for a smartphone in 2014, but if we consider the competition, it is way behind.

In the same benchmark, Sony's previous flagship managed to last more than 8 hours of battery juice, while Samsung's Galaxy S5 lasted 7 hours and 38 minutes. HTC's One M8 managed a little over 7 hours which is still impressive.

Surprisingly, the LG G3, with its 5.5 inch display and QHD resolution, was up for 6 hours and 14 minutes, even better than the Moto X.

Certainly, it doesn't help that the Motorola smartphone only packs a 2,400mAh battery with all of the horsepower it boasts.

Of course, this is only a simulated test and results in real day to day usage may provide different results. But considering the small battery, which is said to be equal to last year's LG Nexus 5, the numbers may not go much further.

In another report, the Moto X 2014's unlocked version is said to be dubbed 'Pure Edition', which only means it won't come with pre-installed apps and features from local carriers.
