‘Winds Of Winter’’ Release Date Not Set For 2015; ‘Game Of Thrones’ Author Celebrates 66th Birthday

The "Winds of Winter" release date is not set for 2015 contrary to rumors flying around as the author celebrates his 66th birthday.

Rumors about the "Winds of Winter" release date went on a high after a piece by Christian Times which quoted author George R. R. Martin as saying that the book will be released at the end of "Game of Thrones" season 5.

It also quoted the author's publisher Jane Johnson as writing in her Twitter account that the "Winds of Winter" release date will be known by 2015.

But David Harris of Lightly Buzzed quickly debunked the rumors by checking Jane Johnson's Twitter page and finding an exchange between the publisher and the fan who asked her about the truth to the quote attributed to her. She replied, "@foster_bt 'Not a 2015 release.' No change there as far as I'm aware."

With the "Winds of Winter" seemingly addressed for the meantime, "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin celebrated his 66th birthday on Sept. 20.

This "means he's lived longer than approximately 99.9 per cent of his characters," CBC Books quipped.

"Game of Thrones" author George R. R. Martin is notorious for killing off his characters, even the major ones as he said in earlier interviews that it adds an element of tension as fans don't know the fate of their favorite characters.

But there's no word yet on the "Winds of Winter" release date, even as he already confessed to feeling the heat. In an interview with Sydney Morning Heraldhttps://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/books/game-of-thrones-author-george-rr-martin-under-siege-from-fans-20131031-2wjs0.html, he said that on one hand, it's good that people are anticipating the next release.

"But at the same time, sometimes I just wish they would stop pressuring me about it. It will be done when it's done. I'm working on it. I don't know what else I can say: I'm a slow writer, I've always been a slow writer, and these are gigantic books," he said.

Author George R.R. Martin also said that the pace of the "Game of Thrones" series on HBO also added to the pressure since the episodes are already catching up to events of the latest book.
