Its official – Colin Farrel Will Star In HBO Series, True Detective, Season 2

The Irish actor, Colin Farrel finally confirmed that he'd be starring in second season of "True Detective", an American TV crime drama series written and created by Nic Pizzolatto.

Colin told the The sunday World, "I'm doing the second series. I'm so excited."

Though details for Season 2 are being kept close to the chest, strong rumors were doing the rounds that everyone from Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch to Zero Dark Thirty's Jessica Chastain to Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss were in the running as well. Moss did not deny the rumors, he cryptically told The Daily Beast, "It's always flattering to be mentioned for a job...," while Jessica Chastain said, "I'm not going to be in it."

The Phone Booth star is apt for the callous police saga, "True Detective" judging by the characters he portrayed in movies in 'Bruges' and 'Tigerland'. Farell confirmed that the filming will start in the next few months.

He said, "I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot," he continued, know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles, which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids. These are early days and all the powers that be are working out locations and schedules and trying to lock down the cast."

He further added, "It's been shown time and time again how [cable channels like] HBO have raised the bar regarding production values and fundamentally the writing that all their shows are based on."

In July, creator and writer of the hard-boiled police saga, Nic Pizzolatto told The Daily Beast that "there are four central roles" in Season 2, and it's also been rumored that it will center around the "secret occult history of the transportation system" (Nic's words) and revolve around the appalling murder of a crooked city businessman who's body is found the night before a big transportation deal. In an attempt to solve the case, three police official from three different cities assemble together.

American film director, cinematographer, writer and Emmy winner, Cary Fukunaga directed all eight episodes of Season 1 starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey and the series earned 12 Emmy noms. Fukunaga and Pizzolatto confirmed that Season 2 will see a few different directors in charge. The French Connection and The Exorcist director, William Friedkin and The Fast And The Furious franchise director, Justin Lin are couple of names floating about.

While talking about his move to cable TV, Farell said, "It's extraordinary; it has reached a new level,". You get to familiarize yourself with characters week after week. You get to build a life that takes a while to experience as an actor and also that takes a while to experience as a viewer. There's just a greater sense of life to it."
