Comic Book Writer T. Casey Brennan Hospitalized For Pneumonia, ‘House Of Mystery’ Writer Worried About Medicare Coverage Being In Jeopardy

Comic book writer T. Casey Brennan was admitted to the St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital for pneumonia and COPD. The Daily Offbeat broke the story and also explain that Brennan is particularly worried that his access to drugs and medicare may be in jeopardy because of a Washtenaw County social worker.

Brennan said to The Daily Offbeat that he was, "rushed to the hospital with pneumonia, literally dying and I have no phone."

He added that his only means of communication was a government issued Obamaphone, a free cell phone that is available to the elderly and disabled for use in cases of emergency. Last night was one of these situations for the prolific comic book writer, who is responsible for a long list of works, including DC Comics' "House of Mystery."

Brennan also went on to tell The Daily Offbeat that he was worried his access to anti-pneumonia pills and his cell phone were purposely being blocked by a social worker in the hospital. He explains: "First the social worker refused point blank to help me get a new Obamaphone or look into payment of my bills with Medicare. Then she went to my doctor, Ragheda Ibrahim, and told her the following: 1. I had lied about the ski mask attack. (My dad was also a county official, on the St. Clair County Board of Education.) 2. I had lied about the Wikipedia page. 3. I had lied about being a popular 1970s comic book writer."

The ski-mask attack in question is a reference to an incident from Brennan's past in which he and his father were trapped, tortured, and burned in their Michigan farmhouse when the writer was 27 years old.

Brennan went on to finally say that the rest of the hospital staff decided to do their own research on the "Vampirella" writer, so for now the 66 year old is on track to recover from the illness.
