Oscar Buzz: ‘Still Alice’ Gains Oscar Contending Release Date, Could 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Actress Julianne Moore Finally Secure A Win For Best Actress?

The Oscar season is fully underway as most of the major film festivals have ended and Oscar buzz worthy candidates are on their way to theatrical releases. There was some worry that "Still Alice," a film starring four time Oscar nominated actress Julianne Moore, would not make the December 31st theatrical release cutoff, but those worries are now over.

Today it was announced that "Still Alice" will get a limited theatrical run in December before it's wider release in January. Most importantly however, Julianne Moore fans might be wondering if her already critically acclaimed performance will finally secure a Best Actress golden statue for her.

"At the end of the day, everyone likes to be validated - blue ribbons, prizes, stars. We all like that stuff. But more important than that are the jobs," said Moore in a recent interview with The Independent.

It would appear that Julianne Moore isn't letting her past nominations but zero wins at the Academy Awards rule her acting career. Perhaps it is her focus on her roles that make all of her performances continues to impress critics. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter stated in their review of "Still Alice" that, "this milestone film on Alzheimer's draws its power from Moore's emotionally restrained but very potent central performance." Indiewire has also pegged the actress as this year's frontrunner in the Best Actress category, calling it her award to lose at this point.

But so far prospects look good as at least one logistical worry is now over. Today Deadline reported that "Still Alice" will get a limited release on both coasts at the end of December and then will get a countrywide release on January 16th. With critics impressed with her performance and now an Oscar contending release date, perhaps Julianne Moore will finally be able to secure a win for Best Actress at this years Oscars in February.

In addition, those eager to see the actress' latest work can catch her as President Alma Coin in "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" which will debut on November 21st.
