Boston Celtics News: Rondo Injured And Underwent Surgery, Will Miss Start Of The Season

The latest Boston Celtics news will shock fans and expect a slow start at the beginning of the NBA season for the team.

According to a report from ESPN, the Celtics management has just released a statement informing the media that Boston's team captain Rajon Rondo suffered a metacarpal fracture on his left hand on Thursday evening.

In the report, ESPN's Jeff Goodman said that according to sources, Rondo slipped while in the shower.

The 28-year-old point guard is said to have undergone a successful surgery on Friday, although the report said that Rondo could miss six to eight weeks before being able to suit up for the Celtics.

This spells a big problem for the Celtics who rely on Rondo's playmaking skills for their offense. In the report, possible temporary replacements for Rondo on the point guard spot include first round pick Marcus Smart, and sophomore guard Phil Pressey, who only started 11 games for Boston last season.

There have been rumors floating around the league that the Celtics are shopping Rondo in order to get a new superstar who can lead them to more wins. However, that seems like not the case as far as the Celtics' management is concerned.

In a statement by Boston Celtics president for basketball operations Danny Ainge, the management will retain Rondo and potentially build a contender around him.

Unfortunately, the time is running short for Boston as Rondo is already 28 years old and should be approaching his final max contract offer of his career. For sure, he would want to play for a team that is not rebuilding, but has a legitimate shot at the NBA title.

For now, Boston may have to experience temporarily losing Rondo not on the trading block, but in an injury.
