Michelle Phan Launches Shift Music Group; YouTube Star Joins Forces With Cutting Edge Group In Order To Support Music Projects Across Social Media Platforms [PHOTO]

So far, beauty maven and entrepreneur Michelle Phan has made a name for herself on YouTube as a makeup artist, with over 300 tutorials and 7 million subscribers. Now, she is getting ready to wade into the world of music by launching her new record label, Shift Music. According to Billboard, Phan has joined forces with Cutting Edge Group, the financier behind more than 400 film scores and owner of the Varese Sarabande label. The joint venture proposes to finance music projects and support them across social media platforms.

AVC Club reports that while Phan says she's "passionate about finding undiscovered and talented artists," she is mainly focused on using the power of social media to share new music and provide artists with a new way to reach fans. Phan stated, "I want to help those artists get to the next level, and provide existing artists with a new way to reach fans. I wanted to partner with Cutting Edge Group because they share my vision, and have a proven track record in innovation in the music business."

Cutting Edge CEO Phillip Morris added, "All of it has to be within [Michelle's] taste. We'll finance and own the publishing and the masters to promote and secure additional work for artists, both new and established. All she wants is to have people whose music she likes to get to her fan base... she's the ultimate DJ...Our joint business will sign acts, and we might do one song at a time. Artists are going to be partners with us."

Phan has recently received trouble from the music industry - she is currently engaged in a legal dispute over her use of songs from Ultra Records in her YouTube videos. According to Variety, Ultra Records sued Phan, claiming she used copyrighted music from several of its artists without permission. However, last week Phan filed a countersuit against Ultra stating that she had indeed received authorization from an Ultra manager to use the songs, and that the label was seeking to use her YouTube fan base to promote the sales of the music.

It seems you can never be too careful! Company supervisors in Los Angeles, New York, and London offices will curate Phan's new soundtracks for her shows.
