According to WinterisComing.net, actress Rose Leslie, who played Ygritte on "Game of Thrones" but was killed off before season 5, opened up to uinterview about criticism of the sexism on "Game of Thrones."
"I would say that Game Of Thrones is at the forefront of...promoting strong, dominant women, particularly in a very brutal and ruthless world," she responded.
"There are powerful women who have armies at their back, and these women can dominate, and I feel that's a wonderful platform."
However, Leslie did admit that there is no lack of controversial scenes for women in "Game of Thrones."
"There are these horrible scenes...within the books, and I feel the show is very loyal to the books."
Last year, "Game of Thrones" co-stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie split after a brief off-screen romance. Their characters, Jon Snow and Ygritte, also broke up dramatically on the season 3 finale of the HBO series.
According to Britain's Mail on Sunday, the actors break up comes just a few months after they started dating, following a close relationship developing from their "Game of Thrones" characters' romance.
A source tells the publication, "Rose and Kit are no longer together. Rose has a new boyfriend who is not in the public eye. She is eager to keep this relationship out of the spotlight."
The former couple played onscreen lovers Ygritte and Jon Snow on "Game of Thrones."
Ironically, the last time Jon Snow and Ygritte were seen was in the season 3 finale, when Snow betrayed Ygritte and the wildlings. Ygritte caught up with him and shot him with three arrows, nearly killing him, Enstarz reports, bringing a swift end to their love affair.
And as viewers of "Game of Thrones" season 4 already know, Ygritte died in the arms of Jon Snow at the Wall in a scene that few will forget.
"Game of Thrones" season 5 will likely premiere in April 2015.
