Savannah Guthrie Brings Baby Vale For Surprise Visit To ‘Today Show’: New Mom Explains Why Daughter Is Still Wearing Mittens

Baby Vale made a special appearance on the "Today Show" on Monday. Savannah Guthrie and her husband Mike Feldman brought their one-month-old to the NBC morning show as the new mom announced that she would soon be returning to her role as co-anchor.

Later, Guthrie also dished on why her adorable baby girl is always seen wearing a pair of mittens.

The "Today Show" crew played "Guess the Guest" on Monday morning and were surprised when social media correspondent Carson Daly revealed that the mystery guest was none other than Vale Guthrie Feldman.

Savannah's co-hosts quickly rushed over to greet the beaming family of three and to gush over the 7-week-old newborn.

Tamron Hall noted that Savannah looked to be in great shape for a new mommy. However, Savannah jokingly responded, "Let me tell you, I'm wearing black!"

Vale stayed calm and wide-eyed as the crowd gathered around her. Savannah even handed her daughter off to Matt Lauer, who passed the baby on to Natalie Morales after quipping, "I think she may be pooping."

Savannah, who is on maternity leave from "Today," also announced that she would be returning to her role as host on Nov. 3.   

"Am I welcome?!" Savannah teasingly asked Matt.

The new mom also updated her maternity blog on the "Today Show" website this morning, explaining why her fans often see little Vale wearing baby mittens.

The cause: Savannah's fear of clipping her daughter's fingernails.

"[Inevitably], as I grip her little fingers and prepare to press down and cut, she starts jerking her hand around wildly. I start to sweat. Nightmare scenarios run through my head. I imagine accidentally cutting into her skin. Drawing blood. Causing wails. Ruining her life," wrote the first time mom.

Savannah explained that she even sought out help from a professional.

"I asked my pediatrician what I should do," explained Guthrie. "I hoped she would reassure me. Or maybe even say, 'Come on by the office, I will clip them for you.' No such luck. Instead, she confirmed my worst fears, saying "accidents with nail clippers" were among the most common reasons parents come in with their newborns. She added that there are little vessels in their fingers that can really bleed if cut!"

Alas, it appears that baby Vale's nails will just have to keep growing for now.
