Homeland Season 4 Spoilers: Creator ‘Enthusiastic’ About Premiere And First Episodes, Explains Why Brody Needed To Die

New "Homeland" season 4 spoilers reveal that the co-creator of the Showtime series, Alex Gansa, is "enthusiastic" about the upcoming premiere and first episodes. He also explained why Brody's death was necessary for the life of "Homeland."

"Homeland" season 4 will take Carrie, played by Claire Danes, back into the field as an agent working in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Alex Gansa revealed that this was the original intention for the show.

"[Changing the direction of the series] required a rejigging of everything ... and a whole new set of characters in the most part," Gansa said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

"The minute that show comes on you are going to be in a reinvigorated landscape.

"We are quite enthusiastic about the first episodes that we have shot and the viewers will be the judge of it."

Gansa also revealed why he and co-creator Howard Gordon believe it was necessary to kill off Brody, played by Damian Lewis.

"When we first pitched the series to Showtime, Howard and I always thought that the Brody story would last one year," Gansa said.

"Brody lasted that long because he proved to be a very compelling character and David proved to be a very compelling actor.

"Our original intention for the second season was to take Carrie Matthison overseas and watch her do what she was trained to do and that's to be a case officer in a foreign country.

"And that's what we are doing in season four instead of season two."

Gansa gave another "Homeland" season 4 spoiler: the themes in the upcoming season are inspired by real-life conflicts in world politics.

"Before every season, the first thing we do is take a trip to Washington DC and spend a week there talking to consultants," he said.

"They are current and former intelligent officers, state department officials and White House staffers who tell us what everyone is talking about and then we turn it into a fictional story.

"This season is really all about the draw down of American forces in Afghanistan and what it means for South-East Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the US."

"Homeland" season 4 will premiere with two back-to-back episodes on October 5.
