12 Monkeys Will Be Uncaged to Premiere `12 Monkeys’ TV Series; Can Syfy Save The World in Time for the Comic-Con Panel?

12 Monkeys will run amok at Com-Con this weekend when Syfy hosts a panel on its highly anticipated adventure thriller series "12 Monkeys."

12 Monkeys will premiere on Friday, January 16 at 9pm ET/PT on the SyFy channel. The series was inspired by Terry Gilliam's classic blockbuster film 12 Monkeys, which starred Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. 12 Monkeys turns 20 next year.

The science fiction series 12 Monkeys will follow a time traveler from a "decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race," according to SyFy's press.

12 Monkeys is being produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment, who also produced the original theatrical film.

12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford as time-traveler Cole, Amanda Schull as Dr. Cassandra Railly, Kirk Acevedo as Ramse, Barbara Sukowa as Jones and Noah Bean as Aaron Marker. Other key recurring roles include Tom Noonan as a mysterious villain and Emily Hampshire as the mental patient Jennifer Goines.  A takeoff on the part Brad Pitt played in the original film. Goines is the show's wild card, a brilliant and unpredictable mental patient who may or may not be tied into the Twelve Monkeys' conspiracy to destroy the world with a virus. 

For the occasion Syfy and Universal Cable Productions will uncage 12 Monkeys at New York Comic Con this weekend. They will host a panel on Saturday, October 11 at 5pm ET headlined by series producers Natalie Chaidez, Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett.  Emily Hampshire will talk about her role, which was portrayed by Brad Pitt in the original movie.
