Weekend Box Office: David Fincher’s ‘Gone Girl’ Starring Ben Affleck To Remain #1, ‘Dracula Untold’ Off To $1.3 Million Start

This weekend marks another exciting box office race with four studio films set to premiere. As a testament to it's majesty, "Gone Girl" is likely to remain in the number one spot this weekend as it crossed the $50 million mark this week. In a surprising twist however, "Dracula Untold," is off to an impressive start with reports indicating a $1.3 million from early releases Thursday night.

"Dracula Untold" director Gary Shore, who is making his directorial debut with the revisionist Dracula film, recently spoke to Joblo about changing his directing style from the commercial form he's used to.

"The way I look at the two forms is, when you approach storytelling, in a commercial it's a sprint. When you're doing it in a feature it's a marathon," he explained.

It would appear that Shore is indeed engaged in a marathon as his "Dracula Untold" movie will have to compete with Oscar buzzworthy "Gone Girl" and horror hit "Annabelle" in this weekend's box office.

Things are looking good so far for "Dracula Untold" however as according to Box Office Pro, the film managed to take in $1.3 million in early release Thursday night. Based on tracking, they also predict that the film will catapult its way to the number four spot by the end of the weekend and take in $15.5 million total.

Meanwhile, "Gone Girl" is expected to remain in the number one spot for its second weekend, bolstered by positive reviews and the star power of Ben Affleck. Add in superb directing by "Fight Club" director David Fincher and it's a recipe for success. Box Office Pro predicts that by the weekend the film will gross $74 million.

Box office performance usually only interests film fanatics, but these numbers in the very least highlight that with Halloween looming, the excitement over thrillers like "Gone Girl" and "Dracula Untold" make perfect sense.
