‘Tokyo Ghoul’ Season 2 Release Date Set For January 2015, Will Funimation Simulcast Series For U.S. Fans Again?

Horror anime has a tendency to either be frightening or frighteningly entertaining. "Tokyo Ghoul," which recently ended its successful first season, leans on the latter of the two, and fans who miss the series will be excited to know it will be back in just a few short months.

Today it was officially announced that the "Tokyo Ghoul" season two release date is set for January 2015. While the exact day is still unknown, in the very least it means that fans of the half human half ghoul story will have just a few months to wait. The question remains however, will U.S. fans get a simulcast of the series from Funimation after the first season's simulcast this summer?

"It would have been annoying if we didn't get a second season with the way they left the first season off. After what happened with that Chinese site though I started reading the manga," comments forum user EpicRevenge on Anime News Network.

Anime fans like Epic Revenge will be happy to know that according to an announcement in this week's issue of Young Jump Magazine (via Anime News Network) that the "Tokyo Ghoul" season two will air in January 2015. This was after an original announcement from the official Chinese site for the anime, which was shrouded in doubt.

As for what's in store for the "Tokyo Ghoul" season two, fans need only look toward original creator Ishide Sui's manga. Sadly, the author doesn't talk much about his series, so fans shouldn't look for any direct spoilers from him.

While Japanese fans with cable can be assured they will get the series immediately, will U.S. fans be able to say the same? Funimation, who licensed and simulcast "Tokyo Ghoul" season one has yet to confirm season two. Perhaps they will in the upcoming months, as there's still probably some negotiating to be done. Until then, the company is still streaming season one, and Viz Media is currently releasing the "Tokyo Ghoul" manga.
