Reese Witherspoon To Direct A Film? Oscar Winning Actress Reveals Career-Changing Plans

Reese Witherspoon has her eye on a directing chair.

The Academy Award-winning actress, who was recently honored at Variety's Power of Women gala, reportedly revealed that she is interested in stepping behind the camera and helming projects of her own.

"I've actually been thinking about it," Witherspoon told E! News at the gala when asked if she hopes to direct films in the future. "I'm actually working on a project right now."

38-year-old Witherspoon, who has had a long and successful acting career in Hollywood, recently established herself as a producer as well.

In 2012, she launched her production company, Pacific Standard, with producing partner Bruna Papandrea.

Witherspoon decided to work in development and production after realizing the lack of material for and about women in the film world. According to Variety, the actress held meetings with a series of top-level studio executives looking for female-driven projects.

"I think it was literally one studio that had a project for a female lead over 30," Witherspoon told Variety. "And I thought to myself, 'I've got to get busy.' "

Witherspoon's company, Pacific Standard, released its first major film, "Gone Girl," starring Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck. The movie opened to high box-office sales and glowing critical acclaim.

The actress also produced and stars in "Wild," an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, which will be released later this year.

"The place and the position that I've had I feel a responsibility to take care of others, help tell more women's stories [and] get the word out there that women are complex, dynamic [and] interesting," said Witherspoon told E! News at the Variety gala. "We're not just one thing or another."
