Stolen Private Photos From Snapchat Make Their Way On The Internet, Reports Say

Several private photos reportedly hacked from Snapchat, a photo-sharing platform have made their way online, CNN reported.

The photo sharing application is supposed to be programmed to erase the photos after sharing but apparently hackers were able to access the pictures and some are sexual in nature.

VentureBeat quoted a statement from Snapchat confirming the leak, "Snapchat servers were never breached and were not the source of these leaks. Snapchatters were victimized by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we prohibit in our Terms of Use precisely because they compromise our user's security."

Internet articles pointed out that the hack might have been made through a third party application such as SnapSaved, which is a storage site.

Snapchat added that they have immediately made efforts to remove many of the photos leaked.

Earlier, celebrities took up matters of leaked nude photos seriously, and have told Google that it will file a lawsuit against the technology giant for failing to stop the photos from being posted online.

The victims of alleged 'hacking' includes Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton.

Attorney Martin Singer, a lawyer representing celebrities threatened to sue Google for $100 Million over the nude photos published online and said in a letter quoted in the report that "Google failed to act quickly and effectively when asked to remove the personal pictures from sites it owns."

The leaked photos were obtained for allegedly tapping into the iCloud information of celebrities.

With Snapchat leak though, various reports said that because most of the users are ages 13 to 17, and that the images being viewed can be a form of child pornography.

Huffington Post reported that there might have been 200,000 photos hacked. The leaked photos became viral after the 4chan on Thursday published the stolen photos in the Internet.
