Joe Dirt 2 Is In The Works! David Spade To Make A Comeback
David Spade is making a comeback with "Joe Dirt 2."
According to a report from Deadline, "Joe Dirt 2," which has been in development for years, will finally push through and be distributed by Sony entity Crackle and will feature the talents of Spade will be out in cinemas in 2015.
The sequel to the 2001 comedy starring Spade who plays a mullet-sporting custodian who becomes a hero will be co-penned byFred Wolf, a "Saturday Night Live" alum. Spade will share the writing duties. Wolf will direct the film and it will be produced by Adam Sandler's production house, Happy Madison Productions.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the story for the sequel will continue from where the first one ended and will see the new misadventures of Joe.
In an interview, Spade shared how ecstatic he is that the sequel is finally in the works, saying: "I'm beyond stoked that Joe Dirt will finally hit the screens again on Crackle. I've been sleeping in this wig for years and it will be nice to wear ti in the daytime again."
Crackle general manager Eric Berger also gave a statement about latest comedic effort, saying: "David Spade had a unique vision for [the film] that he could have brought anywhere and we couldn't be happier that he brought it to Crackle for a first-of-its-kind, worldwide release."
Berger added: "The original film has been a longtime viewer favorite, ranking among the most viewed in our library, and we decided to produce and distribute the sequel as a feature for fans everywhere."
Crackle started off as an archive of television and film content but has expanded to creating original films and shows including "Extraction," which was released last year and starred Danny Glover. Among their television offerings are Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" and "Cleaners."
It appears to be a good time for comedians as the news of "Joe Dirt 2" in development was announced only a week after the news broke out about Sandler's four-picutre deal with Netflix.
