Gone Girl Box Office Prediction At The Top Again For The Second Week In A Row Beating 'The Judge', 'Dracula Untold', And Many More!

While Robert Downey Jr.'s 'The Judge' got banged around at the multiplexes, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," "Dracula Untold" and "Gone Girl" emerged unharmed from a box office pile up this weekend.

David Fincher's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel 'Gone Girl' was at the top for second consecutive week earning $26.8 million and bringing its total to $78.3 million. There is a huge possibility of it surpassing "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" ($127.5 million domestic) which is Fincher's biggest commercial success.

"Dracula Untold" topped pre-release tracking that had the picture opening to $18 million by sinking its teeth into $23.5 million across 2,887 locations. The dark fantasy action film directed by Gary Shore arrives courtesy of Universal Pictures and cost $70 million to produce.

Universal's distribution chief, Nikki Rocco said, "It's a very, very solid result. It's not a horror film. It's an untold story and there is some romance which appeals to females."

It wasn't a surprise "Dracula Untold" brought in a premier audience that was 43% female, an extremely balanced crowd considering the action-heavy subject matter. Over 50% of the crowd comprised of people under the age of 30. 17% of its box office was from IMAX screenings while 10% was from premium larger formats.

Disney's "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," attracted younger crowd as the $28-million production picked up a satisfactory $19.1 million across 3,088 locations. The low price tag implies the film will probably be more profitable.

Dave Hollis, Walt Disney Studios' executive vice president of theatrical distribution said, "It sets us up in a great way as the lighter alternative to a lot of the darker genre fare that's in theaters this month."

As Monday is Columbus Day holiday and Canada's Thanksgiving, kids will be out of school which might help lift the film ticket sales, the Disney distribution chief stated.

The Judge got made is a testimonial to Downey Jr. 's star wattage, however, his power apparently wasn't great enough to ensure a strong opening for the courtroom drama. Across 3,003 locations, "The Judge" grossed a disappointing $13.3 million which is lower than pre-release guess which put it in the $16 million to $18 million slot. Village Roadshow and Warner Bros. produced the movie for $50 million; however, they couldn't find a place among older audience who were lured to "Gone Girl" instead.
