Russell Brand Admits That He ‘Really Enjoyed’ Being Married To Katy Perry, Calls Ex-Wife ‘An Amazing Person’

Russell Brand is opening up about his former marriage to Katy Perry.

While promoting his new book, "Revolution," the British comedy star told Matt Lauer on the "Today Show" that the key to changing society is spreading love.

"Love is ultimately what we're here for," said Brand.

Brand then went on to explain that he feels fame is "ultimately unfulfilling."

So did Brand's distaste for fame have something to do with his failed marriage to pop mega-star Katy Perry?

"I really enjoyed it," said Brand when asked about the marriage. "Katy Perry is an amazing person."

The comedian continued on the subject of the relationship with his ex-wife.

"What happened was after you get married, like anyone who's been married or come out of a relationship, you obviously have a lot of expectations," Brand told Lauer. "And if those expectations don't work out, then it's probably time to grow a big beard and walk around in pajamas. That's my advice."

Brand and Perry tied the knot on Oct. 23, 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony in India. The couple announced that they were divorcing after 14 months of marriage.

Over the summer, Perry discussed her divorce in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, revealing what she learned from the split.

"Now I know-first and foremost, self-love, and then give love away," said Perry, adding, "Back then it was mostly just me giving love away with no self-love. I went through my 'return of Saturn,' is what they call it."

As for Brand, the Brit is focusing on his career. He recently told the Guardian that he knew early on that he wanted to help change the world.

"I always wanted to do something worthwhile, and more than the self-aggrandising pursuit of fame," said Brand. "There's all sorts of opportunities if you're an ambitious and narcissistic kid, and that's the direction I ended up going down."
