American Horror Story Season 5 Is In The Can! Freak Show Premiere Most-Watched Episode In FX History

It has only been a week since the "Freak Show" became open to the public but the coming of "American Horror Story" season 5 has already been slated!

After the premiere episode of the latest installment in the anthology series set the record as the most-watched episode in FX history, the production decided to give "American Horror Story" season 5 a go.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the debut of "Freak Show" had a total of 10 million viewers, besting the premiere of "Coven" last year of 7.2 million.

FX president John Landgraf shared the reason for the show's renewal in a statement, saying: "The [anthology] has had the highest growth trajectory of any show in FX history, not to mention an unprecedented track of success in awards recognition."

He added, "'AHS' continues to deliver amazing stories, a brilliant troupe of actors led by Jessica Lange, and a visual style unlike any other on TV."

The show's co-creator Ryan Murphy took to Twitter to announce the good news to fans. "Thank you AHS fans. You are amazing. Looking forward to Season 5!" the tweet read.

In a previous interview, Murphy mentioned a plan for the fifth installment. "Yes, I have figured it out," he said about next season's story. "I'm already meeting with actors about asking them to play roles." While he kept mum on what it will focus on, he shared "There are clues in the first two episodes because I figured out season 5 early on and I know that the fans love that. So there are clues that are dropped."

Casting for the next season has not been announced, but Murphy has been vocal about Jessica Lange's return even after the actress had already previously mentioned that "Freak Show" would be her last.

"American Horror Story" season 5 will reportedly have 12 episodes and will premiere next fall.
