Robert Downey Jr. ‘The Judge’ Movie Opens To Modest Numbers Over The Weekend, ‘Iron Man’ Star Now Says ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Is Best Marvel Film So Far

While the box office this weekend may have been dominated by "Gone Girl" and "Dracula Untold," Robert Downey Jr. in 'The Judge' made a modest debut this weekend and took fifth place despite lukewarm critical reception. It is mostly due to the "Iron Man" star who recently stated that he has changed his mind about "Guardians of the Galaxy" being the best Marvel film to date. Now, he thinks it is "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

"This new Avengers may well be the best Marvel movie, and by the way that's saying a lot, because I thought 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was great," said Downey in a recent interview with Social Chicago TV (via Cinema Blend)

It would appear that Robert Downey Jr. is very candid lately, and that's probably because he's coming off of an arguably successful box office release of his indie courtroom drama, "The Judge." According to Box Office Pro, the film opened to a modest $13.12 million gross, which is ahead of 2009's "The Soloist." In addition, the film also gained an A- on Cinema Score, which perhaps means the film is going over better with audiences than it has with critics.

But these box office results may actually lead Robert Downey Jr., who will now forever be known as "Iron Man," away from huge blockbuster releases. The actor revealed in a recent interview with Deadline that he was definitely concerned about his ability to play Tony Stark as he approaches age 50. Furthermore, he also admits to wanting to spend more time with his family as his wife will soon give birth to his third child.

Whether or not "Iron Man 4" ends up happening, Robert Downey Jr. has at least indicated he will continue to do other roles with the successful debut of "The Judge." But audiences shouldn't count him out of the superhero loop yet, as he will soon appear in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" next year.
