Los Angeles Lakers News: New-Look Purple And Gold Doing Pretty Well In Pre-Season, Are They Set For A Comeback This Year?

For the Los Angeles Lakers, recent news has it that the coaching staff is thinking of starting Jeremy Lin over veteran Steve Nash.

While there are certainly no problems in that aspect on the surface, the problem may lie on Lin's ability to stay healthy. During his three seasons in the NBA, Lin has sustained a number of injuries, which definitely does not look good if you want to make him the primary floor general for purple and gold.

Once Lin starts and he gets injured due to more minutes, can the Lakers play Nash extended minutes and just gamble on their younger guards while he rests.

At the moment, Los Angeles has been doing good this pre-season, though they suffered a blowout loss to the hot-shooting Golden State Warriors last week.

What matters the most for the Lakers is that Kobe Bryant has played for all of their pre-season games as of late. While Bryant is striving to get back in his top form, opposing defenses will definitely aim to prolong that process with tough defensive assignments.

Fortunately, that scenario will lead to more opportunities for the Lakers. This season, the Lakers' frontcourt is strong both on the offensive and defensive end. Carlos Boozer can light it up from midrange while Sacre, Hill and Davis are more than capable of protecting the rim.

The Lakers have several problems when it comes to injured players, and those would surely hurt the gameplan of coach Byron Scott to turn this season around for Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, with teams in the West continuing to be the tough nuts they are, even notching 40 plus for the Lakers may not be enough to reach the Playoffs.

That just means the Lakers' season will definitely depend on the willpower of its two veterans (Bryant and Nash) to carry the team to the post-season in probably the last time of their respective careers.
