‘Harry Potter’ Spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Will ‘At Least’ Be A Trilogy!

Exciting news for J.K. Rowling fans!

The British author's "Harry Potter" spinoff, "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" is set to become a trilogy. And perhaps more!

Warner Brothers announced on Wednesday, Oct. 15, that the "Fantastic Beasts" film, which Rowling is penning herself, would be the studio's next franchise.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the films will be directed by David Yates, who directed the last four films in the "Harry Potter" franchise. Additionally, Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced at a Time Warner's investors conference on Wednesday that the movies will reunite filmmaking team David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram.

"Jo has a vision for this extension of the franchise, and for the first time, she is writing the script for what she believes is at least a trilogy," said Tsujihara.

"Fantastic Beasts" will mark Rowling's screenwriting debut. She even teased fans with a puzzling anagram about the project last week, which caused quite a stir on Twitter.

The films are scheduled to be released in 2016, 2018, and 2020. However, there could be more after that.

The new franchise is a spinoff of the "Harry Potter" series. The story takes place 70 years before the events of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

The films will follow Hufflepuff alum Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who wrote a textbook, called "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," which Harry Potter studied at Hogwarts.

Rowlings actually wrote the 42-page textbook, which was published in 2001.

The new venture for Warner Brothers will undoubtedly appeal to fans worldwide. The eight "Harry Potter" films were the most successful franchise in film history, bringing in $7.7 billion in global box office sales.
