Susan Sarandon To Star As Marilyn Monroe’s Mother In Lifetime Miniseries

Susan Sarandon is heading to TV!

The Oscar-winning actress is reportedly set to star in an upcoming Lifetime miniseries on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Sarandon will take on the role of the iconic movie star's mentally ill mother.

The four-hour series will be based on the bestselling book The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe by J. Randy Taraborrelli.

Although the project, entitled "Marilyn" is sure to draw major buzz with A-lister Sarandon onboard, the miniseries is still on the search for its leading lady.

No doubt actresses will be lining up to play the famous blonde beauty, who passed away tragically at the age of 36.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the story will explore Marilyn's battle with inner demons that she inherited from her mother. The biopic will delve into the actress's desire to become a mother and connect with her own mother, while becoming a personality who captivated fans worldwide.

The official description reads: "Marilyn is both the personification of sex, whose first marriage ironically collapses because of her frigidity, and a fragile artist who seeks the approval and protection of men. But after tumultuous marriages with Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller, she realizes she has the strength to stand on her own. She becomes the Face and Voice of an era, yet wants most of all to be someone's mother and someone's little girl. She's the Marilyn you haven't seen before, the artist who, by masking the truth with an image, gives her greatest performance."

"Marilyn" is one several biopics being produced by Lifetime about the untimely death of a female entertainment star. The network will release a television film about the life of late singer Aaliyah on Nov. 15, as well as a TV movie on the life and death of pop superstar Whitney Houston sometime in 2015.
