Pacific Rim 2' Spoilers, News: Characters Not Returning? Director Guillermo Del Torro Prepares For Third Installment Release

"Pacific Rim 2" spoilers and news hint that some of the characters will not be returning for the sequel as director Guillermo del Torro gears up for a third installment release.

Speaking to Collider, the director teased "Pacific Rim 2" spoilers and news when he said that they intended to be very "ambitious" about the project, and that has some consequences.

"Some of your favorite characters come back, some others don't because we have decided that we're going to shoot ambitiously and say 'Let's hope we have three movies,' so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one," said director Guillermo del Torro.

Collider's Matt Goldberg wrote that the sequel would be radically different from the first movie but if there's going to be some changes in characters, he hoped that it would be less of Charlie Hunnam's Raleigh and more screen time for Mako Mori (Riko Kikuchi).

That also means that "Pacific Rim 2" would end up in a cliffhanger leading to the third installment. Hopefully, Goldberg wrote, the director would do a better job than he did with "Hellboy 2."

Director Guillermo del Toro talked more "Pacific Rim 2" spoilers and news as he said that they already have the first draft of the movie and spend another "4-5 months on the screenplay before we start pre-production."

"We start pre-production next year in August-September and start shooting November-December next year," he said.

According to Comic Book Resources, Guillermo del Torro and Zak Penn have been working on the screenplay even before Universal gave the go ahead.

"No word on a third film has been officially announced, but if the second performs as well as the first did - it earned $411 million worldwide - don't be surprised if it happens," the site said, adding that the scheduled release for "Pacific Rim 2" is on April 7, 2017.
