'Winds Of Winter' Author George R.R. Martin Claims Release Date Delay Due To His Popularity; Spoilers Reveal Jon Snow's Backstory?

"Winds of Winter" author George R.R. Martin has hinted that the release date delay is due to his popularity as the latest book could reveal Jon Snow's backstory.

In a report from Indie Wire, George R.R. Martin alleged that the "Winds of Winter" release date delay is not due to writer's block, but distraction.

"In recent years, all of the work I've been doing creates problems because it creates distraction. Because the books and the show are so popular I have interviews to do constantly. I have travel plans constantly. It's like suddenly I get invited to travel to South Africa or Dubai, and who's passing up a free trip to Dubai?" he said.

The author then attributed the "Winds of Winter" release date delay to the fact that he doesn't write when he travels, he doesn't write in hotel rooms or airplanes.

"I really have to be in my own house undisturbed to write. Through most of my life no body did bother me, but now everyone bothers me every day. I have assistants and minions whose main job is to make sure people don't bother me so I can actually get writing done," George R.R. Martin added.

Meanwhile, in another interview with the NY Post, the author declined to provide some spoilers in relation to Jon Snow's lineage.

Author George R.R. Martin said Jon Snow's backstory could be addressed in "Winds of Winter" if that's how the story will go.

"I've not finished 'The Winds of Winter' yet, so maybe in that book, but if not then definitely in the next book," he said.

Multiple theories have been flying regarding Jon Snow's true lineage. One of the most popular theories is that he's the rightful heir to the Iron Throne being the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, Ned's sister.

When prodded by the publication to give "Winds of Winter" spoilers, particularly on Jon Snow's parentage, he said, "No, I really am not going to tell a reporter."
