Melanie Griffith Won’t Watch Daughter Dakota Johnson In ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’: ‘It Would Just Be Too Awkward’

Melanie Griffith will not see her daughter's next movie.

Although the 57-year-old star supports her daughter Dakota Johnson's acting career, she recently revealed that it would be just a little too awkward to watch her daughter in her upcoming project, "Fifty Shades of Grey." And we can't say we blame her.

"I read all the books," Griffith told Extra in an interview, "before I knew she was doing the movie...I really loved the books. I think everybody loved the books and everybody read them even though a lot of people will say that they didn't read them. But I think that I'm never going to see the movie myself. I don't think Don [Johnson, Dakota's dad] will ever see the movie.

"It would just be too awkward," Griffith added, smiling at the uncomfortable thought. "She, I think, would be mortified if we ever came to see her movie. She said, 'You can see it up until I lose my virginity and that's it.'"

According to Griffith, 25-year-old Dakota told her Oscar-nominated mother that she did not want her parents to see the explicit film.

"You guys can't come. There's no way," said Dakota, according to Griffith.

Although it's probably for the best that Griffith skips out on the "Fifty Shades of Grey" phenomenon's move to the big screen, she will likely have plenty of opportunity to see her in movies for years to come. The proud mother also told Extra that Dakota has known she was going to be a film star from an early age.

"Around 11th grade... she was like, 'I'm going to be an actress and I'm gonna be really big. I'm going to be bigger than you.' And she is," said Griffith. "There is no lack of confidence in Dakota."

When Extra host Mario Lopez asked Griffith about her love life since splitting from husband of 18 years Antonio Banderas, the actress reveals that she's keeping things simple for now.

"I'm just kind of laying low," she said, adding, "I think I'd like to meet a cowboy, like a real man-man...Like somebody who's a man that's not concerned with this town."
