Spotify Responds To Taylor Swift With A Playlist After 'Shake It Off' Star Pulls Her Music From The Music Streaming Service

Taylor Swift made a serious statement on Monday when she pulled her music from Spotify.

The "Shake It Off" singer not only removed her new album "1989" from the music streaming site but also took away every track she has ever made from the company's 40 million subscribers. Spotify has since responded to the move by Swift and her record label, Big Machine, and is publicly leaving the door open for the pop superstar to return.

"We love Taylor Swift, and our more than 40 million users love her even more - nearly 16 million of them have played her songs in the last 30 days, and she's on over 19 million playlists," wrote the Spotify team on their site's blog.

"We hope she'll change her mind and join us in building a new music economy that works for everyone," added the team. "We believe fans should be able to listen to music wherever and whenever they want, and that artists have an absolute right to be paid for their work and protected from piracy. That's why we pay nearly 70% of our revenue back to the music community."

Spotify made a playful last appeal to Swift, using a few of the musician's lyrics in hopes of persuading her to return.

"PS - Taylor, we were both young when we first saw you, but now there's more than 40 million of us who want you to stay, stay, stay. It's a love story, baby, just say, Yes."

The decision by Swift was likely intended to make a statement about the rights of musicians whose earnings are often dependent on services like Spotify. Although Swift, who sold approximately 1.3 million copies of her album in the first week after its release, doesn't necessarily depend on the revenue Spotify provides, lesser-known artists are greatly affected by the company's financial policies.

Swift formerly told the Wall Street Journal that "piracy, file sharing and streaming have shrunk the numbers of paid album sales drastically and every artist has handled this blow differently."

As for Spotify, the service created two playlist dedicated to Taylor in the wake of her absence.

One is meant to tide Swifty fans over while she is gone and includes titles like "Don't be Cruel," by Elvis Presley and "Still Into You" by Paramore.

The second one is intended to be a little "poetry" persuasion to convince Swift to return. Together the tracks read: "Hey" "Taylor" "We Wanted To Play" "Your Amazing" "Love Songs" "And" "They're Not" "Here Right Now"
