Theory Of Everything Actor Eddie Redmayne Prepares And 'Puts On Dresses And Wigs And Makeups' For New Transgender Danish Girl Role In 'The Danish Girl' Film Adaptation

After his fame in the upcoming movie "Theory of Everything" set to be released on November 7, Eddie Redmayne is set to perform, once more, a very challenging role as a transgender in the adaptation of the novel "The Danish Girl", E! Online reports.

"I have put on dresses and wigs and makeup. I'm beginning to embark on that and trying to find out who she is," the Les Mesirables actor said in an interview.

Currently, the actor is busy preparing for his role and studying the life of the Danish painter, Einar Wegener, who had changed her name to Lili Elbe after undergoing the sexual reassignment surgery in 1931-a procedure not so rampant in those times.

"There are many people who have written Ph.D's on Lili's story. Even though it is period and under completely different circumstances than today, I'm meeting many women from the trans community and hearing their experiences," he further said.

Autopsy reports of the Danish painter revealed that she had more female than male genes  and that there is an 'intermix' of organs that could have been the result of the surgery.

Regarding his preparation in playing Stephen Hawking's character, Redmayne shared that it took him four months to imitate the actions of the scientist who is sick with ALS. He also did his best to understand the reactions of Hawkings' family as he transforms and degenerates as the disease has progressed.

"I had on an iPad all the documentary footage I can get my mitts on and then I would wait for my girlfriend to leave the house and I would sit in front of mirror and try to get muscles working that we're not used to working," he shared.

The Danish Girl-inspired movie will be directed by Tom Hooper, director of Les Mesirables and will start to be shoot on January. Eddie Redmayne will join other co-stars Alicia Vikander who will play Gerda Wegener, also an artist and the wife of Einar Wegner.
