Cameron Diaz Avoids Confirming Or Denying Rumors That She And Benji Madden Are Engaged, Talks Making A Relationship Work

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden appear to be very serious in their relationship these days.

In the January issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, Diaz refused to confirm or deny rumors that she and her musician boyfriend are engaged. However, the actress did dish on their relationship and explained how the pair makes their romance work.

"You have to find someone in the same place as you are," said 42-year-old Diaz. "Timing is everything. If you get into a relationship where you want something the guy doesn't want, it's never gonna work. You're never going to get him to be in that place. No matter how old you are, finding the guy who's in the same place as you are and wants to show up is the only way a relationship works, period."

Diaz and Madden, 35, were first reported to be dating in May. Rumors that the stars are engaged may seem quick but the two have actually known each other for years. In fact, Madden's sister-in-law Nicole Ritchie claimed to be the one that prompted the couple to date.

Diaz has had several high profile relationships in the past, with celebs like Justin Timberlake, Alex Rodriguez, Matt Dillon and Jared Leto. She explained to Cosmopolitan that she's learned from her mistakes in the romances that didn't work out. 

"Here's the thing: You make the same mistake over and over again until you learn your lesson," said Diaz. "We girls sometimes do the thing where we pick the same person over and over again-they look and seem different, but deep down, they're the same. And that's on us."

While Diaz kept mum on those engagement rumors, she did dish on her big role in the upcoming film remake of the classic musical "Annie."

"It was the most terrifying thing I've ever done in a movie. I cried a lot," she said of singing in the film. "[Miss Hannigan is] bitter because her chance at fame was stolen, and all she can taste is that taste, which is very much in line with this day and age. People determine your value by how many friends you have on Facebook or if you're Instagram famous."
