SKarf Comes "Home" To Singapore At First International Public Event

SKarf is a girl group under Alpha Entertainment that debuted about one and half month ago in Korea, recently made somewhat of a homecoming in their first public appearance in Singapore. Their unique concept is that half of the foursome is made up 2 Singaporean- Tasha and Ferlyn , while the other half are Koreans -- Sol and Jenny.  Thus, their stylized name "SKarf" allows the 'S' to stand for Singapore and 'K' represents Korea.

In their appearance at the Bugis+ in Singpaore, about 500 fans turned up, an overwhelming crowd for a weekday performance.  Meeting their fans for the first time in Singapore SKarf was a mixture of emotions -- happy, excited, touched and nervous.

On that same day, SKArf was signed as the official endorser of Giant Hypermarket in Singapore.

SKArf also gave a short showcase with performances of "Oh Dance" and "My Love" before and after their interactive Q&A and signing session with the fans.

During the Q&A session,  they were asked if they remembered the feeling when they first stepped onto the limelight  on their debut stage back in August.  To that, Ferlyn admits that she was more nervous performing in Singapore than at their debut stage.  Sol reminisced that she felt hot after performing, while Jenny felt it was interesting.

On another note, with regard to their training period,  Ferlyn felt that all the 4 members being trained together at the same time makes that period memorable and special.  She showed her gratitude by thanking her fans for their attendance, and thanking her members for making their time together happy and unique.  She felt blessed.

The interactive session also had SKarf having to play a drawing game with 4 fans.  A fan, the first to have queued since 6am that morning was chosen to play the game. Three other fans were chosen from the crowd. For the game, they were asked to draw 1 SKArf member.  Sol's partner fan won the game for her awesome drawing, for which she got all SKarf members' autographs on her sketch book.

Following the game and some announcements from the sponsors, there was a surprise birthday celebration for Tasha.  The MC tricked Tasha to be blindfolded telling her that they were going to play a second game.  While she was blindfolded, her mom appears on stage with her birthday cake.  This made her really happy.

Q&A Session Transcript

Q: Do you miss Singapore food in Seoul?

Sol: Chili and pepper crabs and satay. I love it!

Jenny: Chili crabs too.

Sol: Bak Kwa! (a type of barbecued pork) And pandan cake too!

Ferlyn: Actually I miss the cakes. What is my favorite cake? (she asks the fans)

Fans: Tiramisu!

Q: Who or what came up with the idea of 'Oh! Dance'?

Tasha: Actually we collaborated with Nana School in Korea.

Ferlyn: Some background on Nana School -- They actually choreographed for Lee Hyori.

Sol:  And also for TVXQ

Tasha: Also Girls' Generation

Ferlyn: Their most popular choreography is Girls' Generation "Gee!".  So they came up with this. (showing the Oh! Dance hand sign)

MC: So they came out with this Oh! Dance. From the dancing school.

Ferlyn: Nana Dance School.

MC: Is it very hard to dance?

Ferlyn: Do you want to try?

MC: Yah! I was trying just now. Do you have any tricks to do this? Do you have to do it sexily or something?

Ferlyn: You have to do it sexily plus a little cute plus a little girly plus a little bit manly plus a little bit... (laughs)

MC: WOW! That is very complicated. I know you doing it purposely.

Q:  What is the most interesting part now you have debuted, because you are a fan of someone else? When you go music shows etc, what are the most interesting and fun parts you have experienced?

Tasha: I think it is very unbelievable like now to see so many people coming out to see us. And also it's very fun to promote in Korea. Like 4 of us going to schedules and having fun in the car. Listening to music! Having concerts in the car! So it is still very fun for now. It is not tiring yet.

Q: You have Daum fancafe. Do you all read fans'messages/posts? It may help to bring up the numbers in the fancafe.

Ferlyn: We do read the messages. Recently I just left a message. Did you see it?

MC: You just left a message? What did you leave?

Ferlyn: Go and look at it. Now all of us have already left our messages. Don't fret! Because we do read the messages! And I really thank you guys for writing down those messages and I hope to see more.

Q: Do you have any Kpop groups that you look up to?

Ferlyn: S.E.S and Fin K.L. You guys may not know them much but they are very popular during that generation. We have plans for the second single. We hope you all will look forward to it.

Sol: You know "Gangnam Style". Yah. I like PSY.  (They danced shortly to Gangnam Style)

Tasha: Actually we do look u to the first generation K-Pop idols like S.E.S and FIN. So we hope to be like them and actually we have the similar concepts now. So we just hope to be like them.

Q: (Fans) What did you miss most when you are in Korea?

Tasha: I miss Singapore people and Singlish. And also a lot of Singapore food and durians.

MC: I heard that Sol loves durians.

Sol: Yes I love durians.

Ferlyn: I miss of course my family and my friends.

Q: (Fans) What would be the fan club's name?

Ferlyn: Do you guys have any suggestions? If you guys have any suggestions, please put it up on our fancafe. Our company does not know we have so much fans.

After their performance of "My Love", SKarf was still game to sign for 300 fans.  Then, to capture the memory of their first public appearance a.ka. semi-homecoming, they took a group photo with the audience.

Their bubbly personalities and optimism, make SKarf not just a unique concept group but a girl group to look out for as they try to bring back the color of earlier generation Hallyu wave idols.
