'Captain America' Chris Evans Giving Up His Shield After 'Avengers 3?' Six Picture Deal To End After 'Avengers Infinity Wars I And II?

The rumors about Chris Evans retiring as "Captain America" seemed to have never died down, soon after the actor spoke to Variety.

"Initially, it was a nine-movie contract. And they said, if these movies take off and do very well, and my life changes and I don't respond well, I don't have the opportunity to say, listen, I need a f-king break. That just scared me.

"They called back and they tweaked the deal. It went from nine [films] to six. I said no again. My family was even going, 'Are you sure you're making the right decisions?' It started to feel like maybe this is what I'm supposed to do, " Evans explained of how his contract with Marvel has come through.

He also mentioned that he had other priorities in mind aside from acting.

"I've known for a while I wanted to direct. But (time) never really opens up. There's another movie to do, there's another acting job. It just got to a point where I was like, you know what - I have to do this... If I'm acting at all, it's going to be under Marvel contract, or I'm going to be directing. I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I'm contractually obligated to do," the 33-year-old star explained.

Those words were immediately taken out of context by fans and spectators, fueling rumors that Evans is about to hand over his shield, but this was soon clarified by the actor telling MTV:

"Who's handing off the shield? Don't take my job from me prematurely, dude," he said when asked about the rumors of his retirement. "I got a few more movies that I have to finish first, which I'm happy to do. I'm sure it'll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I'm really happy playing the character."

While, he did not mention if the planned "Avengers 3 Infinity Wars I and II" will be his last movie with Marvel, he did reveal some exciting information about "Captain America: Civil War" and the  "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

"It's this giant web of plot, where everything is connected to everything else... that's the beautiful thing," Evans told MTV News, "and especially for the fanboys who understand these plotlines. With Cap 3, we're going to continue this excitement."
