'Jane The Virgin' Actress Gina Rodriguez Prefers Baby Girl For Her Character? Talks About Role Breaking Norms

If it were up to her, "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez wants a baby girl for her character as she talked about playing roles that break the norm.

The 30-year-old actress talked to SheKnows magazine and she was asked the question whether or not she likes her character to have a baby girl or boy.

Gina Rodriguez didn't even hesitate as she said that she prefers a girl. The reason?

She's "obsessed" with little Jenna Ortega, her "mini-me" in the series. "She's so freakin' cute!" said "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez.

Also, the women in her family apparently only give birth to daughters so she thinks it's realistic-owing to her genes-that her character in "Jane the Virgin" should also have a baby girl.

However, it's all speculation at this point as even Gina Rodriguez doesn't know for sure the gender of the baby when Jane gives birth in a future episode.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Modern Luxury's Miami magazine, as shared by Just Jared Jr., "Jane the Virgin" actress Gina Rodriguez talked about how she loves to play roles that break the norms, or pave the way for Latinas who will come after her.

"I want to play roles that I see in my reality," she told the magazine. "My sister is a successful investment banker; my other sister is a doctor. I want to see those roles. I want to see Latinas play roles that are empowering, that are strong, that breaking the norm!"

As an example, Gina Rodriguez pointed to her character in "Jane the Virgin" who is "breaking norms in our culture and bringing up conversations. "The show doesn't comment on life. It does not judge life. It's just...let's talk about virginity; let's talk about interracial couples; let's talk about sex; let's talk about this Latino story that will realize is no different than yours."
