Kanye West Receives Visionary Award At 2015 BET Honors, Says His And Kim Kardashian's Relationship Isn't About The Money [PHOTO]

This past Saturday, rapper Kanye West received the Visionary Award at a taping for the 2015 BET Honors. According to E Online, he decided to use his time on stage to clarify any rumors and stigmas concerning his relationship with wife Kim Kardashian, as the couple has received criticisms about Kim looking like a "gold digger."

Jezebel reports that West was introduced by Dame Dash, who gave a somewhat burning introduction: "My history with Kanye is I didn't respect him as a rapper because I was around the greatest rappers....but he has courage."

West then took center stage, and recounted his moving meeting with Islam leader Louis Farrakhan Muhammad, Sr., whose reaction to his and Kardashian's relationship was "groundbreaking" for him. He stated, "It was interesting or groundbreaking and really special for me to see [Minister Louis Farrakhan]'s reaction and his expression about my relationship with the woman not of color. And for us to focus on the idea of love and not the idea of separation."

He then went on to address "gold digger" rumors, saying, "At the barbershop... I used to hear people always talking about, 'Man you know when an entertainer get on, of course you know he gon' go and get a white girl and blah blah blah and a white girl gon' get a rich black dude.' But I wanna say that my wife has dated broke black dudes. It got nothing to do with the money."

Lastly, West ended his long speech by commenting on racism. He told a story about Kardashian and her late father, Robert Kardashian, who was subject to widespread racism after he handled the O.J. Simpson murder case in the '90s. Robert supposedly told Kim, "One day, you may have a black child...a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful black child...and it's gonna be hard. You're gonna see how hard it is."

E Online reports that West used the anecdote to address racism in society, stating, "So true enough, we deal with racism because there are different races. Or the micro of it is that we focus on the different races as opposed to the macro, which is the human race."
