'Blade Runner' Sequel, Harrison Ford To Make Box Office Hit Again? Principal Photography Begins In 2016

After so many rumors, Harrison Ford has finally jumped on board the "Blade Runner" sequel as principal photography is reportedly set to start next year.

Multiple reports said that Denis Villeneuve, director of "Prisoners," is one of the leading candidates to helm the film. The screenplay is written by Michael Green and Hampton Fancher, who also co-wrote the original "Blade Runner."

According to the report from CNN, Alcon Entertainment owns the rights to "Blade Runner" after acquiring it in 2011 to produce both a sequel and prequel.

"The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original, which centered on a man (Ford) working as a blade runner who was tasked with chasing down machines called replicants," it said.

The synopsis of the original "Blade Runner" reads: "In a cyberpunk vision of the future, man has developed the technology to create replicants, human clones used to serve in the colonies outside Earth but with fixed lifespans. In Los Angeles, 2019, Deckard is a Blade Runner, a cop who specializes in terminating replicants. Originally in retirement, he is forced to re-enter the force when four replicants escape from an off-world colony to Earth."

Harrison Ford joining the "Blade Runner" sequel comes as no surprise because he supposedly loved the script when he first read it.

Ridley Scott told MTV that Harrison Ford, who will reprise his role as Rick Dickard, thought that the "Blade Runner" sequel is very relevant to what happened in the 1982 film.

"I sent him this [script] and he said it's the best thing he's ever read," he said.

"I'm not just doing a sequel with lots of action and see how far we can go with the special effects because you can't really. 'Blade Runner' kind of landed on a somehow very credible future. And it's very difficult to change that because it's been so influential with everything else," the director added.
