Characters' Fate Sealed Even Before 'Winds Of Winter' Release Date? 'Game Of Thrones' Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Spills About HBO Series

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau hinted that "Game of Thrones" would have a different direction for the major characters as the "Winds of Winter" release date still hangs in the balance.

In an interview with Men's Health UK, he said that the creators of the HBO hit series have a good idea of how George R. R. Martin will end the "A Song of Fire and Ice" novels.

"He hasn't written the books, but he knows how he wants it to end. Well, I think he's written one of them now. I don't know when it comes out but I'd assume soon," said the "Game of Thrones" actor.

"All the details, they're going to have to come up with them themselves. It's going to be interesting because I think the show is going to finish before the last book comes out. There'll be quite a big difference when it does," Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jamie Lannister, said.

In an article by Access Hollywood, George R. R. Martin revealed that they are already working on season 6 for the HBO hit, even as he's making sure to announce the "Winds of Winter" release date the soonest possible time.

"I met with David Benioff and Dan Weiss and Bryan Cogman," he said. "And we had a long talk about some of the stuff that will be included in Season 6, but we haven't started writing that one yet."

George R. R. Martin also hinted that the trajectory of the characters of "Game of Thrones" will be quite different from his novels.

In an interview with Conan, he said "no one is safe" from the hit TV series and even those who read the books should not be too optimistic about their favorite characters.

"Even the book readers who say, 'Well, this character is safe, he's not in any trouble because he's still in book five', may have an unpleasant surprise," he said.

So although the "Game of Thrones" season 4 is based on the "A Song of Fire and Ice" books, the show's creators have the license to take a different route when it comes to the characters.

George R. R. Martin told Conan O' Brien, "I do kind of squeal a bit when I get the outline, 'Wait a minute, wait a minute, he's not dead in the books, he's still alive in the books.'"

Although he's working on rushing the "Winds of Winter" release date, George R. R. Martin is very much involved with "Game of Thrones" to make sure it doesn't veer away from the overall vision.
