Taylor Swift And John Mayer Split: ‘XO’ Singer Praises Ex, Says She Is ‘Really Cool’ For Doing One Specific Thing

Even if Taylor Swift and John Mayer's split wasn't amicable, the "XO" crooner still managed to talk about his ex-girlfriend. In an interview with Ronan Farrow for "7 Days of Genius," the singer praised Swift for her contribution in the music industry.

At first, Farrow asked if it might be awkward to bring up the "I Knew You Were Trouble" songstress following Taylor Swift and John Mayer's split. Nonetheless, Katy Perry's rumored boyfriend was game for the topic.

"We have to talk about Taylor Swift! We have to be able to talk about Taylor Swift!" he said.

The pair talked about the incident when Taylor Swift voiced out her disapproval of Spotify, the famed music platform which allows users to stream full albums. Last year, the "Styles" songstress opted to pull out all of her songs from Spotify.

"[People] can still listen to my music if they get it on iTunes. I'm always up for trying something. And I tried it and I didn't like the way it felt. I think there should be an inherent value placed on art," she told Time magazine.

She added, "I didn't see that happening, perception-wise, when I put my music on Spotify. Everybody's complaining about how music sales are shrinking, but nobody's changing the way they're doing things."

"They keep running towards streaming, which is, for the most part, what has been shrinking the numbers of paid album sales."

While others find Taylor Swift's perception too strong, John Mayer said his ex-girlfriend is "really cool" for taking a stand.

"Artists need the person with the loudest voice to speak for them," John Mayer told Farrow.

When asked if Taylor Swift is using her influence in a right way, John Mayer agreed and said, "I think so, when you say that.. I think that's a really cool thing for a musician to do."

"Like two percent of the music industry has 80 percent of all the media about it."

He added, "There's like four people who get all the press, and if any of those four people say, 'I want to speak for those people who would just never make this a story'-The only reason we're talking about Taylor Swift taking Spotify on is because she's Taylor Swift!"
