'Cinderella' Star Lily James' Tiny Waist Receives Backlash; Film Gets Strong Following During Opening Weekend

"Cinderella" lead star Lily James' tiny waist has received backlash from critics due to her tiny waist, but this didn't affect the movie's strong following during its opening weekend.

Twitter users and moviegoers have used the words "nearly non-existent" to describe her tiny waist. A critic even posted on the said social media site about boycotting the Disney remake of the classic fairy tale because it sets up "unrealistic expectations," particularly among girls, said a report by Daily Mail.

"Boycott #Cinderella by Disney making Cinderella's waist disturbing to look at and setting up unrealistic expectations," said Twitter user Rochelle Schattner.

Another user, Kyla, posted: "What I gleaned from the new Cinderella is that if you're docile and nice to rats, you too can have a waist the circumference of a Coke can."

"Pretty sure Lily James's corset made her waist 4 inches round in #Cinderella. Not setting a positive example for girls in today's society," Janelle Walker added.

A review by vox.com also revealed some nasty points about 25-year-old "Cinderella" actress Lily James' tiny waist on the film.

"What's crazy about this version is that Cinderella ends up with a supernaturally thin waist, thanks to a corset that James has complained wouldn't let her swallow whole foods," the film review noted.

"The message seems clear. On the most magical night of her life, Cinderella's waist is size negative two," it added.

The different scenes of the well-loved fantasy story clearly show Lily James's tiny waist, especially with her shape-revealing gown.

With this, there is now an allegation that the English actress' waist was digitally edited to make it appear smaller. But this was denied by Walt Disney and the $95 million live-action fantasy's director, 54-year-old Sir Kenneth Branagh. Furthermore, a representative of the "Cinderella" actress claimed that such look was successfully achieved with a corset.

Meanwhile, the "Cinderella" star told E! News that she has always wanted to be a positive role model to girls.

"For girls growing up, sometimes I think they get the wrong idea for what women should look like," the former "Downtown Abbey" actress told the website as she reacted to the "upsetting" and "boring" criticism.

Amidst the bashing "Cinderella" got due to Lily James's waist, it still scored high on US box office as it raked in $70 million on its opening.

It also gained a resounding success internationally with $62.4million in sales overseas, including $25million in China, a record for a March opening there.

With the all-time favorite fantasy movie's box office performance, should the Cinderella star be thankful of her bashers somehow?
