Trevor Noah, New Daily Show Host Releases Statement Amidst Attack; Says His Jokes Are Not 'A True Reflection' Of His Character

Trevor Noah has recently been named the new host of 'The Daily Show."

Following the announced retirement of former host Jon Stewart, the budding comedian has been put under bad light recently. This is due to reports about the comedian's twitter feed where he posted old jokes that critics consider to be sexist and anti Semitic.

These old posts include the following:

  • "A hot white woman with ass is like a unicorn. Even if you do see one, you'll probably never get to ride it."
  • "Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn't look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my german car!"
  • "Behind every successful Rap Billionaire is a double as rich Jewish man. #BeatsByDreidel"

Critics were quick to bash the comedian after reading the posts, which were uploaded years before. While most of them went against the comedian, some were neutral. Caitlin Dewey of The Washington Post released a statement about the ongoing controversy involving Trevor.

"Because human beings are, in reality, flawed: prone to errors in judgment or youthful indiscretions or drunk texts/tweets/status updates they really never should have sent A lot of people have made bad jokes in their 20s," she said. "The only difference now is that those jokes are memorialized forever on the Internet - and readily ripped out of their chronological context, and away from their intended audience, as contemporary proof of their sender's bias or stupidity or ill intent."

Comedy Central has also come into Noah's defense, saying that the criticism he's been getting is "extremely unfair," especially after the fact that it was posted years ago.

"Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included," Comedy Centrail said in a statement cited by Politico. "To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central."

Adding to this, Trevor has also posted his own statement via his twitter account cited above.

"To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn't land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian," the comedian posted.
