‘Fashion Police' News: E! Exec Admits Show Returned Too Soon After Joan Rivers' Death; Hosts' Departures Could Cause Show's Eventual Cancellation, Said Source

"Fashion Police" news reveal an E! exec admitting that the show returned too soon after Joan Rivers' death. The hosts' departures could also cause the show's eventual cancellation, said a source.

"With the benefit of hindsight, we definitely brought it back too soon," NBC Universal Lifestyle Networks Group President, Frances Berwick, told The Hollywood Reporter.

NBC owns E! Network, which airs the hit fashion critique show.

The exec also explained that they decided not to cancel "Fashion Police" following news of Joan Rivers' death precisely because of the comedienne's loyal fanbase. However, Frances Berwick admitted that the program is definitely not as fun as before.

"This has all gotten very intense and serious - it's meant to be fun," she explained.

"When it stops being fun or if we think that we're offending or crossing a line, absolutely, that's the time to re-evaluate and that's what we're doing, frankly."

Another report from The Wrap revealed that even though "Fashion Police" told news publications that it will still return after a six-month hiatus, it is possible for the show to get cancelled altogether.

"They are really worried," a network insider revealed.

"'Fashion Police' was a big workhorse for advertisers with tons of brand integration all year long back in Joan's day. That's one of the reasons they kept the show around... they sold it at the upfront (presentation)."

"But with all the bad press and the realization it doesn't work without Joan... they are thinking about canceling it quietly," the insider explained.

Even former "Fashion Police" host Kathy Griffin told news publications about the show's shaky run.

In a report from Yahoo, Joan Rivers' protégé and "replacement" explained why she decided to leave the series after only seven episodes.

"From the jump, like even before I started, I don't know why but I've never worked on a show with so many leaks," Kathy Griffin said.

"It's a leaky boat over there."
