Mischa Barton Sues Mother For ‘Exploiting’ Her Career - A Rundown Of What The ‘O.C.’ Star’s Mother Did

The "O.C."' star Mischa Barton recently made headlines for accusing her mother of disrespecting her rights. In the lawsuit the actress filed last week, the 29-year-old described her mother Nuala as a "greedy stage mother posing as a talent manager."

Nuala is being accused of taking the majority of Mischa Barton's paycheck from the horror film "The Hoarder." Nuala reportedly lied to her daughter about her earnings so that she could pocket more cash apart from her 10 percent management fee.

According to the lawsuit, "While Barton was busy perfecting her craft and turning her acting dreams into reality, her mother, defendant Nuala Barton, was secretly scheming to exploit Barton's bourgeoning career for her benefit."

The "O.C." star is similarly in conflict with her mother after the latter kicked her out of their $7.8 Beverly Hills home. According to Mischa Barton, her parents are still "comfortably" residing in the eight-bedroom property. She purchased the property with her mother in 2006.

Apart from her acting ventures, Barton also explored the world of fashion design. Her mother, however, launched the Mischa Barton handbag line on her own. Nuala reportedly failed to consult or compensate her daughter for the said line.

"Nuala did not compensate Barton for the use of her name, image and likeness, nor did she share in any of the profits from these ventures with Barton," read the document. "This is all despite the fact that the businesses were built solely on Barton's fame and popularity."

As per People magazine, Barton was left with no choice but to sue her mother. It was reportedly her "last resort."

"She is heartbroken by this, and she didn't want to do it. She hates the attention, but she didn't have a choice," said one source to the magazine.

Over the years, Mischa Barton tried to defend her mother but according to the insider, the former "The O.C." star has already reached a point where she wanted to "take full control of her career and the financial freedom she deserves."
