'The Mindy Project' Canceled By Fox, Picked By Hulu; Insider Details Revealed!

"The Mindy Project" has just been canceled. Fox has announced that it will not be renewing the show on its network.

The show has been well received critically but has suffered low ratings throughout its run. The show, which stars "The Office" alum, Mindy Kaling aired for three seasons and the last one ended with a cliffhanger where Dannny (Chris Messina) was on his way to India to ask Mindy's parents for permission to marry Mindy. Plus, audiences have yet to see the baby of Mindy and Danny.

In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kaling talked about the future of the show in the event that Fox would not renew it for another season. "I just think there are more stories," Kaling said. "I do think there's more to tell, and I think fans would be disappointed not to see more adventures with these characters."

" But I came from a show [The Office] that I was on for eight seasons, and it continued for another year after that, so I am accustomed to long runs of television shows," the continued. "I would be up for that challenge."

Kaling also spoke previously with E! Online aying how happy she with the story arc that the show has pursued."I would love for that to be the legacy, that it was a breeding ground for insane talent and for people to watch it and be like, 'This was a great love story over the course of how ever many seasons for the first time between two realistic people falling in love, that didn't shy away from stuff that was real that was a on network...which I don't know that we're going to see that many more of those kind of shows on networks," she shared.

After Fox opted out, Hulu, the TV streaming service expressed their interest in obtaining the show. Universal Television is now in negotiations with Hulu for a multiple-season deal for "The Mindy Project."

Hulu has been steadily amassing several shows to beef up their content. They've recently acquired the "The Way," a drama produced by Jason Katims ("Parenthood").  and "Difficult People" a comedy from Universal Cable Productions.
