'Wolverine 3' Will Be Hugh Jackman's Last Time Playing The Character; What Are His Reasons?

Hugh Jackman confirmed that "Wolverine 3" will be the last time he will be playing that character.

"This will be my last one," the actor confirmed during a recent guest appearance on The Dr. Oz Show, "It is my last time. It just felt like it was the right time to do it."

"And let's be honest, 17 years," he added. "I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it."

The "Les Miserables" actor also said that he had made up in his mind that the third installment of the "X-Men" spin-off movie will be his farewell film for that role. "I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out," he said.

The actor first portrayed Wolverine in the first "X-Men" movie, which came out in the year 2000. When the third "Wolverine" film comes out, Jackman would have played the mutant eight times.

The character has evolved over the years, and the movies have traced his path from the time he was a loner first discovering his abilities, to the time when he was an integral part of Professor Charles Xaviers' X-Men.

There are rumors that Jackman would make a cameo in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" movie but that has not been confirmed yet.

The upcoming installments of the franchise, "X-Men Apocalypse" and "Wolverine 3" will be the last two movies set within the X-Men universe created by director/producer Bryan Singer. It is not known yet what direction the planned spin-off movies "Gambit" and "Deadpool" will take.

Wolverine 3 is slated to be released on March 3, 2017.
