Valentines Day Flowers Almost Don't Make It To Bermuda: Winter Storm Nemo Nearly Prevents V-Day Flower Delivery

Valentines Day flowers headed to Bermuda were delayed by Winter Storm Nemo over the weekend. The storm caused vendors who didn't place orders weeks in advance to be without flowers for v-day.

"The flowers are currently being picked in places like Holland, Thailand and Ecuador and they should arrive in Boston this weekend," one source within the flower industry told the Bermuda Sun on Friday. "If they can not get the flowers in to Boston or even out of the city because of the snow then we are going to have problems."

And although the obvious question is why don't local flowers cut it with the women of Bermuda, apparently the island's thirst for foreign roses and tulips at Valentines Day is insatiable.

"People sometimes go into panic mode when something like this happens," said Rachel Smith, head florist at Bermuda flower shop Demco Florist.

Yet Smith was confident her v-day flowers would arrive.

"I have every faith that we will have our flowers in on time [for Valentines Day]," Smith said. "Some of our flowers do come in from Boston, but we also get a large proportion through Delaware. Hopefully the storm will have moved on by next Monday when we are due to get most of our flowers in."

And Smith's confidence appears to have paid off. On Thursday, Demco Florists's Facebook page said they were offering "premium grade, long stem roses" for Valentines Day in the customer's "choice of colors."
